A 2D echocardiogram (echo) and a 3D echocardiogram are both noninvasive procedures that use sound waves to create images of the heart to assess its structure and function:
2D echocardiogram: Also known as B-mode imaging, this technique produces a cone-shaped image of the heart that shows the motion of its structures in real time.
3D echocardiogram: This technique produces a more detailed view of the heart's structures than a 2D echo. It can be used to take measurements while the heart is beating.
