A FibroScan, also known as transient elastography, is a non-invasive, painless, and quick test that measures liver fibrosis by evaluating liver stiffness. The test uses a small ultrasound probe to send a 50-MHz wave into the liver and measures the shear wave's velocity as it passes through. The measurement is then converted into a liver stiffness measurement.
FibroScan is a special ultrasound technology that measures liver stiffness (hardness) and fatty changes in your liver. Fibrosis causes the buildup of scar tissue and if left untreated fibrosis can lead to serious problems in the liver.
